Here are ideas for when you write to politicians and the media and talk to friends or on radio or at clubs or meetings:     Links to contacts below these ideas:

Demand that

- Unsustainable wood supply agreements cease immediately; fed government to buy them out if necessary

- The current attempt by Forests NSW to mislead the public into accepting monoculture plantations as a good climate change solution STOP NOW, as it is false

- The most effective carbon sink that we have, i.e. native forests be preserved intact - so get industrialised logging to cease immediately

- When the forests recover, highly trained people, not machines need to harvest in a way that is truly sustainable

- all NSW wildlife be deemed sacrosanct and its habitat protected immediately – no more destruction of the homes of rare creatures and no more destruction of the forest habitat that is home to creatures which need it so they don't become rare!

Forests NSW be liable for the weed invasion it is now causing across thousands and thousands of hectares of NSW by industrialised style logging, laying earth bare to weed seed germination, sabotaging attempts of other departments and people to stop the weed crisis

Say

- I will not support any candidate in this. or any election, who is ignorant of, or intends to allow, a continuation of industrialised style logging in NSW

- I will not be tricked by carbon offset schemes that try to make out that MONOCULTURE plantations are the green alternative

- I want real investment in the wide array of alternative building and manufacturing products that can be derived by growing a vast array of alternative crops on degraded or weed infested land

- I do not want native forests cleared for monoculture plantations

- I want the preservation of our mixed stands of forests as a resource for the future to be harvested by people trained in ecology, not by giant machines destroying landscapes

Above are thoughts to send to those on the essential list as well as to existing state and federal candidates and those standing for election in your electorate in March – links below. (Phone or visit as details next to names)

And a sample letter to go only to the candidates standing for election - if you wish:

Subject: Outrage at the destruction of Australia’s native forests I am incensed at the wholesale slaughter of NSW Native Forests due to the wood supply agreement with BORAL. I want this reviewed NOW and the license revoked. We must not supply more wood than can be harvested sustainably.

In combination with the threat from feral animals, weeds, road kill and development and the impact of industrialised logging and the virtual clear fell that it involves slaughter is occurring on a grand scale. Words cannot convey the barbarity and absurdity of this situation in a part of this planet now identified as at the centre of the sixth greatest extinction crisis the planet has known and in a world facing unknown impacts from climate change.

I will not vote for a candidate this state election unless they absolutely pledge that these licences cease immediately. I will not listen to any promise about climate change while destruction of the carbon sink of this state is permitted. Are you aware?

  • of the lack of scientific and independent supervision of forestry operations. Often no government official supervises logging contractors alone in these precious areas housing our last wildlife.
  • that the virtual ‘clear fell’ that goes under phrases such as ‘Australian Group Selection’ or heavy single tree selection is modifying our native forests out of recognition and replacing them with weed infested wastelands...leaving weed problems that we will never be able to control
  • that our community third party rights to prosecute breaches due to ill conceived laws have been taken away? while those reaping the benefits continue with impunity to destroy what others are battling to save...that a multinational is profiting from the destruction of Australian wildlife

I have seen the damage done to our forests from Google Earth aerial photography and I realise we are in the midst of a barbaric regime.

Our native forests will not withstand this final onslaught and I condemn it.

I would like a response outlining what you would do to stop this if you are elected
